Many teams were testing new parts for the start of the European season at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain. This final day consisted of cars completing the most laps they possibly could in the hope that they learnt something new about the updates and gathered understanding.

Romain Grosjean topped the time sheets again in his Lotus E20, replicating his lead from the previous day. His best lap of 1m21.035 saw him top the time sheet with a margin of around a quarter of a second, much more than the 0.000 gap between P1 and P2 on Wednesday. The Frenchman lapped the circuit just 66 times however, one of the lowest numbers.

The car 0.250 tenths back was Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull RB8. He got some decent running in and set about in understanding where the car could improve. It was his first full day in the car after sharing driving duties on Wednesday. Fernando Alonso finished the session 3rd fastest as Ferrari took the full day at their home track to test a range of big upgrades, in the hope of closing the gap to the front runners. However the team did not get much luck from the home advantage as Alonso clattered into the barriers at turn 12. It took 2 hours to repair and recover the car but Alonso still managed 98 laps.

4th fastest finished Daniel Ricciardo in the Toro Rosso. He completed 117 laps but his best time could only put him 5 tenths off. He had a relatively straight forward day compared to some of the other teams, notably Sergio Perez in the Sauber. He finished 6th but at the start of the day his engine caught fire, after a short delay he went out on track to record a best time of 1m22.229, one of 118 laps. 6th finished Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India, who shared driving duties for the last day with team mate Di Resta. The latter finished the day 10th, 8 tenths behind his team mate.

Between the Force India drivers in the timings finished Pastor Maldonado in the Williams, who completed just 63 laps. He was followed up by Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes who was 1.5 seconds off the front running pace.

9th place on the time sheets by the chequered flag was Mclaren test driver Oliver Turvey. He completed 99 laps and his best time was 1.6 seconds off the Lotus E20. Behind him were Di Resta, Kovalainen in the Caterham, who completed 139 laps, and Timo Glock in the Marussia.

There were a number of red flags, notably for Alonso's crash, Kovalainen sliding into the turn 1 gravel trap, Di Resta spinning at turn 11 and Perez's Sauber stopping at the end of the pitlane.

The drivers and teams will be hopeing they have done enough to make the steps forward in Spain.
