Does a good support network really equal good results? by Charli Andrews

While the F1 world quietens down during the break, between the Malaysian and Chinese Grand Prix's, I received an article by Charli Andrews discussing on the rivalry between Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, debating whether a support network can equal good results.

It was no secret that during the 2011 season Jenson Button had a great deal of support from his close friends, girlfriend and family while Hamilton was forced to look on and wish. Guess who finished the season better off, Button, and now Hamilton.

After a pretty dismal year in 2011, Lewis Hamilton is going to be hoping for a better season this year and will be exploring all the ways to achieve that. We all heard him talk often about wanting a good 'support network' around him, but does can that really help him during race weekends?

Jenson Button is a prime example of having a perfect network around him. With Jessica, John and various other members of his family and friends at ever race with him, Jenson couldn’t ask for anything more. After his great season in 2011, you can't help wondering whether this support network did help him to improve his race results.

But then we come to Sebastian Vettel. Apart from Norbert (Seb's father) being at most races; he has a limited family network around him, yet still had a fantastic season in 2011.

In addition, it seemed that the only races his girlfriend, Hanna, attended Sebastian would either crash or not win! (Canada, Germany, Japan, Abu Dhabi) So it seems the rule only applies for certain drivers!

I think this is something that Lewis needs to investigate this side of his race weekends. No matter what works best for him, he needs to get it fixed and hope for a better 2012 season.
