Argentine Grand Prix set for F1 return

F1 car's have not raced in Argentina since 1998, where Michael Schumacher raced to victory in Buenos Aires, but rumours are circulating that F1 could soon see a return to the country.

Argentina lost rights to host a Grand Prix after 1998 due to financial difficulties and the countries nearest race since then has been in Brazil. However reports suggest the country and closing in on a deal to return to Formula 1 in 2013, most likely taking the slot currently held by the Korean Grand Prix.

Italian website Autosprints has quoted an Argentine government minister saying they will soon sign a  3 year deal with Bernie Ecclestone. Argentina minister of tourism Enrique Meyer was quoted in  Autosprint saying "The National Government accepts the challenge of organising the Grand Prix of Argentina to promote the image of our country around the world. In May, the three-year contract will be signed between all parties involved."

It comes after it was revealed president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner had intentions to bring the Grand Prix back to the country by 2013. The race, if staged, will take place on a Hermann Tilke designed street circuit in Mar del Plata.
