Karun Chandhok has been in the F1 paddock for the last few years but has struggled to get a drive in a competitive car, or get the chance to drive at all. He raced 10 times in 2010 for the back markers Hispania but never got the chance to show his true racing potential. He has now conceded defeat on the hopes of driving again in 2012.

Karun Chandhok has never been given a big break. He raced 10 times for the off pace Hispania team before being replaced by Sakon Yamamoto. He then raced just the once in 2011 for the now Caterham F1 team in Germany but had a rough race. He narrowly missed out on the chance to race at his home Grand Prix in India but had to settle for an FP1 drive like so many other rounds in 2011.
He was eagerly hunting down a drive for 2012 but the doors are closing thick and fast in F1. With just a Williams and HRT seat remaining he has now given up hope. He said "It's frustrating to watch the races and not doing it. But it is unlikely that I will race in 2012. The next best option is to continue as test and reserve driver and for that I am still talking to teams." He also admitted "A lot of decisions are made on commercial considerations" and said it is a real struggle for people like himself.
Karun now looks on to the season hoping for a Test or Reserve role to stay in the F1 field. No doubt he will be a regular face in the BBCF1 or maybe even Sky F1 shows as he seems quite comfortable in front of a camera or microphone.
The next few years will, for sure, determine whether Karun stays in F1 or not. With so much young talent and current drivers wanting to keep their drive its a struggle for all to get that chance.
Comment your views on the situation, should Karun give up? Would a test or reserve role be the best choice? I would love to here your views.

It's sad but probably correct as I seem to remember that, when he had the opportunity, he made too many mistakes.
