Interview with Luiz Razia

Luiz Razia is quite a familiar name in the F1 paddock, after a good run of results in the feeder series and finishing an impressive 15th out of 25 in the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi this year, for the now Caterham F1, he is ringing in quite a few people's ears.

Luiz has also tested for the Caterham F1 team and took regular driver Jarno Trulli's spot for Free Practice 1 in China, obviously one of his highlights. Caterham F1 is not the only team he has driven for, he made his F1 debit for Virgin Racing, now Marussia, in 2010 at the young driver test.

With a successful GP2 and junior series career behind him, i asked him what holds for the future and whether F1 is the path he will take. I contacted him via email to interview him on these topics, and many more, take a look.

Hi Luiz, thanks for taking the time to answer these questions, here we go:

Firstly Congratulations on your Career so far and the recent young driver test in Abu Dhabi, Obviously all successful racing drivers in this current age have to start racing when they are very young, what was your first taste of racing?

I started with rallies when I was 12, at Bahia in Brazil. It was the only way in my city to do some racing at that time.

2) When you were growing up and coming through the junior formula, who was your inspiration and why?

Michael and also Ayrton Senna, Senna always has been, but at my time he was gone already, so M.S was at that time the best in F1.

3) You have participated in the GP2 series for the last few years, what would you say have been the highlights of your GP2 career so far?

7 podiums, 2 victories, 1 Pole and 3 Fastest laps, but Pole in Hungary was very very special, only 6 drivers did Pole position in 2011, so I'm very please to be in that club.

4) You recently participated in the Young Drivers Test for Team Lotus, who are soon to be Team Caterham, What feedback did you get from them?

Everyone was very please with my work and i was as well, we completed all the programme and i was the fastest at that point, the team helped me so much and I'm very glad for that, the FP1 in Brazil was very good as well.

5) You have had a taste of F1 with tests and an FP1 session run, what were your thoughts when you drove an F1 car for the first time?

It is very important to do a very good job, and in Brazil after the test i was very sharp and the team was very happy with the work done so I'm very confident that the team was impressed by my work and we will keep doing the good job over he next year hopefully.

6) There is alot of debate on what is needed to be a good F1 driver, what would you say is the most important thing to have if you want to be in F1 as a driver?

Confidence. You have to set up your mind in one objective, and let your body do it with your all energy you got. Confidence is everything.

7) I recently interview some other F1 fans and bloggers and one of the questions was based around who the best F1 driver is at this current time, if you could hire 2 drivers that are current F1 races in your dream team who would they be?

Alonso and Jenson

8) Obviously I am sure the main goal is to reach Formula 1, but first comes 2012. What are your plans for then and will you still be in the F1 circus with Team Caterham?

I'm still looking to stay in Caterham. Let's see what is going on.

9) With so many young drivers in the feeder formula's of F1, who would you say is your toughest competition to get an F1 drive?

All the drivers are trying to get in F1 now a days you never know were they came from an BANG, they are there.

10) Finally in your opinion, who are the top 3 drivers in F1 at the current time?
Vettel, Alonso, Button on this order.
