The yellow flags were out after Pastor Maldonado stalled his car at the exit of turn 14, and the stewards reviewed the data and found they had not lifted sufficiently for Perez, and Hamilton received his for still having his DRS on during the Yellow Flag zone. The penalty means Hamilton can start no better than 4th for Sundays race.
Perez also received the penalty a similar offence, as they attempted to cram in as many laps as possible on the new Buddh International Circuit.
Hamilton has accepted his penalty but hopes it will not harm his race, with Perez feeling the same way. Team mate Jenson Button narrowly escaped a penalty too as he was left with no choice but to overtake Narain Karthikeyan, quoting he was "barely moving".
