Indian reserve driver Karun Chandhok has missed out on a chance to race at his home event, at this weekends inaugural Indian Grand Prix. Karun Chandhok has had high hopes of securing the drive, but inevitably the Team Lotus team decided against the decision as they realised that getting 10th place in the Constructors championship is the most important thing, so they can get the added financial help.
Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandes had expressed his opinion, saying he would "love" to see Chandhok racing alongside Kovalainen at the New Dheli circuit but another decision was made. They want to keep the positive performances running till the end of the season, and think Chandhok's inexperience could affect that.
Chandhok will be driving in the first practice session, so will be determined to show he should be racing and not having a one off. The team thought with his limited dry race running experience it would be best to retain Trulli.
"From the team perspective the key goal for us this weekend is to maintain the performance levels we saw in the last two races and while I am sure there will be fans in India who want to see Karun race for us on Sunday we had to make the best decision for the future of the team," said Fernandes.
Karun is said to be disappointed but understanding of the final outcome, as well as being more determined than ever before to get a permanent drive.
Chandhok is a love able guy, and is very popular with F1 fans and team members but his inexperience will definitely jeopardise the 10th position in the constructors table. He needs to keep testing and improving as well as improving the relationship with him and the team, as well as others, as i think he isn't ready just yet to have a permanent drive.
