As it is almost time to celebrate the New Year, I thought I would take a look back at my favourite moments from 2015.
I have been lucky enough to enjoy some unforgettable experiences and moments over the last 12 months. What have been your best moments? Let me know on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
1. Rhodes
Over the summer, I visited the sunny island of Rhodes with my family. After a busy first year at university, it was the perfect place to unwind and relax. But we also did a lot of exploring. The highlight was visiting Rhodes Old Town and Lindos. The two towns are very different but both feature quaint, narrow cobblestone streets and historical buildings.
The Medieval Old Town of Rhodes features striking Gothic and Ottoman architecture and is packed full of little shops, stalls and restaurants. Lindos, in contrast, is a small town perched on a hill, made up of white-wash buildings and with a more Greek feel. Visiting the Acropolis looming over the town was well worth the steep walk and the views were spectacular.
2. Spanish Grand Prix
I attended this year’s Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for Richland F1. I spent an afternoon exploring the Montjuic Park area of Barcelona on Wednesday, before four busy days at the track.
However, there was time to step away from the laptop and walk the circuit, attend a few events and take it all in. This was even more evident during the post-race test, where I was able to watch the cars from trackside.
3. Ibiza
I visited Ibiza over the summer with my family, staying at a more peaceful part of the island. It isn’t just all about partying! We did plenty of exploring and, most importantly, it was wonderful to spend a whole week with my Nan. Looking around the old Ibiza town was one of the highlights, despite a brief rain shower!
4. Joining About.com
In July a rather exciting email arrived in my inbox about joining the About.com team. I took a bit of time to research and think about the opportunity before I accepted its offer to run the Formula 1 page. Considering the F1 site hadn’t been updated for a while, I am pleased with the progress and content I have made so far. Being part of such a big network is a brilliant experience and I have plenty of plans for 2016!
5. We Are Tech
One of my modules from year two of my university degree was about creating a magazine. Groups of six had to create a 60-odd page dummy, with all copy and pages to be written and designed by us.
I was part of We Are Tech, a technology magazine with a smart look and wide variety of covered topics. It was the toughest, most time-consuming university project yet but we worked incredibly hard and I was really pleased with the end product and my contribution.
6. BTCC
In August my dad and I attended the British Touring Car Championship round at Snetterton, our local race track. It had been a little while since my last time watching the series from trackside but the racing never disappoints and we were able to move around the circuit throughout the day.
7. Supercar spotting
A few weeks after the start of my second year at the University of Westminster, I went supercar spotting with my friend Josh, who runs the Supercar Kingdom YouTube channel. I had been once before but my second time supercar spotting was much more successful.
As well as being a motorsport nut, I’m also a big automotive fan, so seeing a Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Zonda, Pagani Huayra, several Lamborghini Aventadors, Ferraris and much more, it was really cool. You don’t see cars like that every day, especially where I am from! It was good fun and a nice way to spend the day in London.
8. Exploring London
Okay, so this is a couple of moments combined into one, but I have loved exploring London more this year, meeting up with friends and showing some of them around. It is such a bustling, vibrant and busy city, there’s always somewhere to go and something to see. I’ve loved living in London so far and look forward to much more exploring in 2016.
