The Mercedes W06 Hybrid and Williams FW37 were both unveiled prior to the start of the morning session in the pit lane.

Meanwhile the first images of the Red Bull RB11 and its striking camouflage livery were released as the car emerged from the pit lane to start the team's pre-season running.

It was a busy morning session, with one red flag caused by a spin for Sauber's Marcus Ericsson. Daniel Ricciardo set the opening timed lap, a 1:29.141, but was quickly displaced by Nico Rosberg.

The 2014 championship runner-up ended the morning fastest overall with a 1:23.106 following a productive session.

He bettered the fastest time from last year's Jerez test within the first 90 minutes of winter running. However, he was displaced at the top of the timesheets by Vettel in the afternoon.

The four-time champion set the pace on Sunday despite a few technical problems, putting in a 1:22.620 and completing 60 laps in total. Ericsson was second fastest in the Sauber after a late improvement.

He completed 73 laps, as did Valtteri Bottas in the new Williams. Rosberg dropped to third but times mean very little during pre-season testing. The German enjoyed a problem-free day, completing an impressive 157 laps and finishing just under five tenths down on Vettel's quickest lap.

Ricciardo was fourth fastest at the wheel of the RB11. A few power unit issues limited his running, meaning he only managed 35 laps. However, it was a much more positive start to testing compared to 2014.

Bottas was fifth fastest, with Carlos Sainz Jr next up. The Toro Rosso driver's best lap was 2.7 seconds slower than the fastest time, and the Spaniard caused a red flag with one hour to go after stopping on the circuit.

McLaren managed just six laps on day one of the Jerez test, with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel of the Honda-powered MP4-30. Several engine problems cost the Woking-based outfit track time. Alonso managed just one timed lap, putting in a leisurely 1:40.738.

The Lotus E23 failed to appear after a delay meant it was flown over to Spain during the first test session. It will make its debut at the Jerez circuit on Monday. Force India decided not to take part in the opening winter test.
