Pirelli has confirmed the tyre nominations for the Austrian, British, German and Hungarian Grands Prix.
The sport will return to Austria this season for the first time since 2003. The Red Bull Ring requires good mechanical grip and has a smooth track surface.
The red-marked super-soft and the yellow-banded soft compounds will be taken to the Austrian Grand Prix. It will be the third race in a row that this combination of tyres has been used.
The Silverstone circuit is one of the fastest on the calendar, with high energy loads going through the tyres.
This is why the two hardest compounds - the white-banded medium and orange-marked hard tyres - will be taken to the British Grand Prix.
The F1 paddock will then travel to the Hockenheim circuit for this year's German Grand Prix. The track combines long straights with slow, technical corners and puts low energy demands through the tyres.
This is why the super-soft and soft compounds will be taken to the race. It will be the fourth time that this combination will be used.
The Hungaroring will host round 11 of the 2014 season. It is a slow-speed track but conditions are typically very warm over the race weekend.
The soft and medium compound tyres will be taken to the Hungarian Grand Prix, which will provide a wide working range and help to increase strategy options.
