Lotus debuts new E22 in Bahrain

Finally, this season's F1 grid is now complete after Lotus became the 11th and final team to debut its 2014 challenger.

The team opted to skip the opening four-day test at the Jerez circuit, deciding instead to complete more development and preparation work on the new E22 at its Enstone factory.

However, the Renault-powered machine did take to the 2.75-mile Spanish track two weeks ago as part of a promotional filming day. Pastor Maldonado had the honours of giving the car its on-track debut.

The team suffered a slow start, completing just one lap on Friday, but the following day was far more productive, with the E22 managing to reach the 100 kilometre limit.

The team felt the first shakedown had been a success, as did Renault after the power-unit supplier trialled a number of upgrades following the problems experienced by Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Caterham at the first test.

On Wednesday, Romain Grosjean gave the team's 2014 challenger its public debut as it took to the Bahrain International Circuit.

The Frenchman was the first driver to emerge from the pit lane at the second winter test, giving rival teams and media their first look at the car and its distinctive twin-tusk nose.

Lotus had originally shared rendered images of the car in late January, just as McLaren launched its MP4-29.

It has been a difficult winter for the team after losing 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari and former team principal Eric Boullier to McLaren.
