Here it is, the final Powell Post! It is a sad one to end on, with Alice sending her well wishes to Michael Schumacher - one of her racing idols, but overall it has been a very good series. Hopefully you all enjoyed the insight into life as a racing driver.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas too, and that the weather didn’t affect you too much.
Of course, over Christmas and New Year, it is a quiet time in the Motorsport industry. However, parts of the F1 race teams still keep working, with some staff coming in over the Christmas and New Year period, as so much work has to be done to get the car ready and developed for the long season ahead.
One story which has made the headlines this week was the news of Michael Schumacher and his serious skiing accident. At the time of writing, he is in a stable condition and all I/we can hope for now is that he keeps improving.
The seven-time Formula One World Championship was my idol when I was growing up. Whenever I was playing racing games, I always had to be Michael, I was always routing for him to win and apparently, so my parents tell me, I used to cry if missed out on the victory…!
So yes, I was a massive fan. To be honest, I still am, even though he is no longer racing. It was a huge shock to hear the news of his accident and it put a lump in my throat when I heard of his critical condition. I wish Michael and his family plenty of support and hope that he continues to improve.
This is my last Powell Post and I would like to thank you all for reading and most of all, thank Jack for the opportunity! I wish you all a happy and successful 2014!!
All the best,
Alice xxx
