F1 2013 Season in Pictures

2013 has been another good year for Formula 1. It hasn't been as dramatic as past seasons but we still got to witness some great on-track action. The talented F1 photographers have captured some of the season's most iconic moments with beautiful results. Here is the 2013 season in pictures.

This piece provides the perfect opportunity to thank my photography partners Octane Photographic for their fantastic work this season (which you will recognise by the two logos in the top-left corner).

The 2013 season kicked off in early February with the first winter test at Jerez.

The second winter test took place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. The final 2013 car was unveiled just prior to the test, the Williams FW35.

The third and final winter test took place at the end of February and the beginning of March, again at the Circuit de Catalunya, as teams made final preparations ahead of the first race in Australia.
Just prior to the 2013 season, I visited the Royal Automobile Club in London for the Sky Sports F1 press day.

Saturday qualifying in Australia was a washout but Kimi Raikkonen raced to victory on Sunday.

'Multi-21' was the big story to emerge from Malaysia and was, arguably, the most dramatic moment of the season. Here, Mark Webber leads Sebastian Vettel but he couldn't hold on to the lead for long...

A fantastic shot of the grid for the Chinese Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso won the race after an early overtake on Lewis Hamilton.

Sergio Perez was criticised after the Bahrain Grand Prix for driving too aggressively. He hit team-mate Jenson Button when attempting to pass at turn four. At the front, Vettel took the win.

Fernando Alonso took an emotional third Spanish F1 race victory, if you include Valencia, at the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix.

A truly iconic shot as the 2013 field head up the hill towards Casino Square. The tight and twisty Monaco circuit is notoriously difficult to overtake on, so Nico Rosberg led from start to finish.

Vettel was the star of the show on race day for the Canadian Grand Prix, but Valtteri Bottas was the one turning heads in qualifying after setting the third fastest time in Q3.

Just prior to the British Grand Prix, and the announcement of his departure from F1 at the end of 2013, I got to meet Mark Webber at Red Bull Racing's Open House event.

Tyre blow-outs cost Hamilton a certain home victory, but Rosberg picked up the pieces to take his second win of the season.

After five failed attempts, Vettel finally won the German Grand Prix and was understandably delighted to take victory on home turf.
The Silverstone Young Driver Test took place after the German Grand Prix. I attended the first day of the test for my final live listen to the V8 engines.

He was denied a victory at Silverstone, but Hamilton finally won his first race for Mercedes just prior to the summer break at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
I was able to catch a glimpse of the Hungarian Grand Prix between reporting on races for the BRDC F4 and F3 Cup, which I covered for RichlandF1 at Brands Hatch over that weekend.
My weekend reporting on F4 and F3 Cup at Brands Hatch took place between two weeks work experience at Car Throttle. Incredibly, I'm now part of their freelance team! They were obviously happy with my work...

It was a sign of things to come. Hamilton led into turn one at the Belgian Grand Prix but a moment at Eau Rouge let Vettel take the lead. He was unchallenged to the flag.

Winning the Italian Grand Prix was a very special moment for Vettel, five years after he took his debut victory at the Monza circuit in 2008.

Mark Webber was handed a grid penalty after the Singapore Grand Prix due to being handed his third reprimand of the year. It was given to him for running across the circuit in a dangerous manner to hitch a ride with his good friend Alonso.

Nico Hulkenberg put in one of the drives of the season in Korea to equal his career best finish of fourth place, holding off Alonso and several other highly-rated drivers to finish as best of the rest.

Webber took pole position but he could only manage second place once again, behind his team-mate Vettel, in Japan.

An iconic image from 2013, Vettel celebrating his fourth world title at the Indian Grand Prix. He completed donuts on the pit straight before bowing to his car and taking to the podium.

Another Vettel victory despite starting from second on the grid. Kimi Raikkonen's 2013 season ended dramatically after he crashed out on lap one.

The cars line up on the grid for the penultimate round of the season. Up ahead, you get a glimpse of race winner Vettel and the now famous climb to turn one.

Vettel won the season finale but all eyes were on Webber in his last F1 race. He finished in second place and took his helmet off for the cool down lap, something I have never seen before.

Now the sport looks to 2014 and the dramatic regulation changes. The grid will look very different next season with a number of familiar faces missing from the line-up. 2013 was quite predictable but 2014 is a complete mystery.
