F1's sole tyre supplier will take the orange-banded hard and white medium compounds to the Suzuka circuit for this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.

Looking ahead to the final three races of the season, Pirelli will take the medium and yellow-banded soft compound to Abu Dhabi and the ultra-modern Yas Marina Circuit.

Explaining their choice for the 17th round of the season they said: "The combination of the medium and soft tyres are best suited to the varied characteristics of the Abu Dhabi track, which being a twilight race starts in the late afternoon with falling temperatures towards the end of the grand prix."

The United States Grand Prix takes place two weeks later at the new Circuit of the Americas, an undulating high speed track that is demanding on the tyres.

That is why the orange and hard compounds have been nominated for the penultimate round of the season.

The season finale in Brazil will also see Pirelli use their orange and hard tyres from the 2013 P Zero range. Explaining their decision they said: "Interlagos is a demanding track with high-speed corners and significant elevation changes, so the hard and medium compounds are the best choice for this last race of the 2013 season."

Brazil will be the ninth time that the hard and medium compounds have been paired together, the most of any in their 2013 range. The supersoft compound, the least durable of the range, has been used the least with five Grand Prix appearances.

Meanwhile at the opposite side of the scale, the medium compound tyre will make its 18th appearance in Brazil.

You've got to give it to Pirelli Tyres at least they're willing to test the different tyres out. Admittedly it's caused them a lot of trouble lately but they're taking a risk.
