Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has been recognised for his services to motorsport in the recently announced Queen's honours list, receiving an OBE.
Horner is "naturally shocked" by the honour. He becomes the second Red Bull team member to be given the an OBE after Chief Technical Director Adrian Newey was awarded one on the 2012 New Years honours list.
He started his career as a driver before realising he was merely average in the talent that he possessed behind the wheel. Instead, he moved to the managing side and was enlisted by Red Bull to front their Formula One campaign.
The 39-year-old has turned the Austrian team from mid-field runners to triple world champions along with helping develop 2012 champion Sebastian Vettel into a dominant force.
Horner, Vettel and Newey are thought to be the 'dream team' in Formula One due to the obvious success that they have found.
Speaking on the news, Christian said: "It's all a bit unexpected. Incredible really, I'm naturally shocked, but I just feel very honoured and privileged to receive it. To be in the company of men and women who have achieved such great things for the country is something very, very special.
"This is right up there with what I have achieved in motor sport. You look at the list of people and that they have done across all different industries, charities and their communities, then I'm hugely honoured."
Aside from his Red Bull commitments, Horner has been Team Principal of the Arden International team since 1999 and has helped discover and develop such current Formula One talents as Sergio Perez, former Williams driver Bruno Senna and race winner Heikki Kovalainen.
Arden currently field cars in the GP2, GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5 series.
Other non-F1 people on the Queen's honours list include singer-song/writer Adele who will receive an MBE, TV presenter Claire Balding will be honoured with an OBE and Rowan Atkinson (remember his hilarious expressions at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix?) to name but a few.
I will be visiting the Red Bull Racing factory soon and will both congratulate and hear the views of Christian Horner on his OBE.
