As I mentioned in my Sky Sports F1 Press Day piece, the
broadcaster will up the quality of their coverage even further in 2013 with some exceptionally insightful
innovations.

The new features show the steps that Sky have made, with
incredible access at each race being furthered by the plans that were revealed
today.
Some of you who tuned in to the practice sessions, to see
how they went check my ongoing weekend report, may have noticed some of the new
features.
They include Martin Brundle being stationed at different
corners for selected practice sessions, what Sky is calling “Trackside”. He
will cast his watchful and experienced eye over proceedings, giving insight
into who looks strong and who doesn’t.
Another new feature that was previewed during the Australian
Grand Prix practice sessions was “Pit Wall Live”, where commentator David Croft
and his co-commentator (Anthony Davidson for practice sessions and Martin
Brundle during qualifying and the race) will be able to directly communicate
and interview team principals whilst they are on the pit wall, doing their job.
Elsewhere there will be “GP Uncovered”, showing a rare
selection of films from Beaulieu’s world-renowned archive which will follow
race weekends alongside Steve Rider’s “Legends” series.
Classic Grand Prix’s will also be broadcast on the run up to
the race weekends, shown in the evenings. There will be up to five of these
shown during the weekdays leading up to the race itself.
Sky have also revealed features such as “Road to Greatness”
with Red Bull Racing, behind the scenes and looking at the 2014 engines.
The broadcaster has really upped the ante this year, and
will be broadcasting every practice, qualifying and race session live alongside
other programmes and special features.
The BBC also broadcast in the UK and have nine races shown live,
with race highlights for the remaining 10.
