Alonso to miss driving new Ferrari at first test

Fernando Alonso will not drive Ferrari's new 2013 F1 Car in the first winter test at Jerez.

The Spaniard will miss the first test of the season, as Felipe Massa takes the reigns for the first three days. It is an unusual decision by Ferrari but Massa will give experienced insight ahead of Alonso's test debut at Barcelona.

Pedro De La Rosa will drive the Ferrari in the final day of testing at Jerez. Then a few weeks later at the Circuit de Catalunya Alonso will spend the first three days in the car, before handing the machine over to Felipe Massa for the final day.

The final winter test, again at the Circuit de Catalunya, will have shared duties for both drivers, Massa kicking the four day test off before he hands the car over to Alonso on day two. Felipe will then drive the car on day three, before Fernando rounds out the testing season on day four.

Meanwhile other teams have confirmed their driver line ups for the first test. Romain Grosjean will drive the Lotus E21 for the first two days, likewise Mark Webber at Red Bull. Nico Hulkenberg will also kick off his 2013 campaign, his first at Sauber, in the new C32.
