The deadline to pay the 2013 entry fee was Friday 30th November at 12pm. That date has now passed and it looks like we will be down to 11 teams racing for glory next season.

Just before the US Grand Prix in Austin HRT were put up for sale by owners Thesan Capital. The Spanish squad started life as Campos Meta, before debuting in 2010 as Hispania.

Originally owned by Colin Kolles, the team was bought by Thesan Capital in mid-2011 and relocated to Madrid in Spain. They designed their first full car for 2012 and after a slow start, they began to close in on Marussia mid-season. However it did not last and they soon drifted away as money started to become tight.

Parts shortages due to the financial difficulties meant they failed to end the year on a high, cementing their rock bottom 12th place constructors finish.

After missing the deadline for entry to the 2013 season, the HRT Team was absent from the 22 car FIA entry list.

Reports from numerous insiders suggest that the team are now trying to pay off creditors and make sure they are debt free when they shut down.

Technical Director Toni Cuquerella tweeted in Spanish, translated as "4 years ago I suggested to a friend to make a F1 team. Today after 3 seasons he has written the last page of HRT. Good Luck Friends"

Attempts were made to find a buyer. Chinese company Chery Automobile were reported to have been interested, but the deal did not go through with many people put off by the large debts.
