It was his final day of running in the Red Bull RB8, before handing over to Robin Frijns, and he certainly impressed. Teams continued to test parts for the final two races of 2012, and the 2013 cars.

His best lap time of 1m42.679 was two hundredths of a second slow than day 1's leader Kevin Magnussen in the McLaren.

Half a second down the road was Oliver Turvey in the McLaren, who had a busy afternoon. He took over from Gary Paffett in the MP4-27, who set the fifth fastest time to go one second slower than the leader.

DTM racer Edoardo Mortara took over driving duties of the Lotus E20 from Nicolas Prost and ended the day in third. He showed impressive pace in the E20, which took Kimi Raikkonen to the win just a few days earlier in Abu Dhabi.

Esteban Gutierrez added to his Formula 1 experience and finished in fourth. He was happy with the day overall and added to his FP1 session in India.

Gutierrez was the busiest driver of the day, lapping the modern track 93 times. In contrast the two McLaren drivers had low mileage thanks to splitting driving duties.

GP2 race winner Johnny Cecotto Jnr took over the Toro Rosso from the series runner up Luiz Razia. He ended the day two seconds off the pace, but got in some good mileage.

Giedo Van Der Garde completed his running for Caterham with a good days running. He closed the gap on those in front, with just a 2.5 second deficit to the fastest driver.

The Dutchman focused on aero and set up changes, before switching to long runs and tyre management in the afternoon.
