Dino Zamparelli claims debut F2 podium

British racing driver Dino Zamparelli claimed his debut podium in race 2 at Brands Hatch.

The driver from Bristol started race 2 in 4th position, before moving up into the podium places after a fast start. The result boosted Zamparelli's confidence after sliding off track the previous day in race 1, during awfully wet conditions.

Race 1 saw Kevin Mirocha take his debut Formula 2 win during a wet and rainy race. He managed to keep his car on track after starting on pole, eventually finishing 5 seconds ahead of Matheo Tuscher. Championship leader Luciano Bacheta took 3rd place and spent the majority of the race battling with Tuscher.

Mihai Marinescu took 4th place. He had been running 5th after being passed by Hector Hurst, but the Brit ran off track at Druids. Markus Pommer remarkably took 5th after starting last on the grid, ahead of Christopher Zanella.

The drivers had to keep their nerve during 2 safety car periods. David Zhu crashed at Grham Hill bend and brought out the 1st safety car, while the 2nd came Snegirev, running 4th at the time, getting sideways as he came on to the start/finish straight. With reactions not so fast as Dino Zamparelli showed in Spa, Alex Fontana and Kourosh Khani could not avoid the Russian and hit him.

Dino Zamparelli was running in the top 9 before sliding wide onto the grass and retiring.

The race 2 win was claimed by Mahia Marinescu, who dominated from lights to flag. Christopher Zanella never let him out of sight, but could not do enough to keep up with him.

Dino Zamparelli, a regular columnist at JLF1, managed to keep ahead of the following pack and, by the end, pull away to secure his debut podium. He benefited from others slow starts and coped well with the restart, after Matheo Tuscher suffered a hefty crash at Paddock Hill Bend, to maintain position.

Kevin Mirocha finished a second down on Zamparelli, while Markus Pommer rounded out the top 5.

Plamen Kralev had been in a strong battle for points but managed to outbreak himself while attempting an overtake and clattered into the barriers.

Dino now goes into the next round at Paul Ricard with added confidence. You can hear more about the French round in chapter 4 of Dino's diary, which will be posted in late July.

My buddy Dan Puddicombe (@ThatCarGeek to some) had the amazing opportunity of writing the F2 reports for Autosport and being at the event, check them out at http://www.autosport.com/ under the "F2" catagory.
