Anthony Davidson injured in terrifying Le Mans crash

Sky Sports F1 pundit and ex-F1 driver Anthony Davidson was involved in a huge crash while driving a Toyota TS030 HYBRID car in the LMP1 class at Le Mans.
The historic 24 hour race was barely 5 hours in when Anthony Davidson's #8 Toyota collided with Piergiuseppe Perazzini's #81 AF Corse Ferrari. The incident happened at the entry to Mulsanne where it seemed Perazzini did not leave enough space. Davidson took his normal racing line due to his faster car and the blue flags but clipped the Ferrari. His car turned sideways and went airborne for several seconds, flipping over. It once looked like it would do a nose dive but it landed on all 4 wheels. Both cars hurtled into the barriers.

Both drivers went to the medical centre for check ups and emerged unscathed. Davidson complained of some back pain which meant he stayed in his damaged car for some time. It was disappointing for Davidson who was not long into his stint. After being flown to a nearby hospital it was revealed Davidson suffered 2 broken vertebrae in his back.

The popular Brit tweeted "Well that was a big one! Lying in a French hospital with a broken back wasn't what I had in mind at this stage in the race..." before adding the next morning "Feeling a bit sore today, but generally just happy to be alive! "

The cars were under caution for a long stint as the barriers were repaired before the historic event was restarted.

The next week Anthony was taken via a specialist helicopter home to the UK where he is currently resting at home.

After such a big crash I would like to wish Anthony a speedy recovery and hope to see him back racing soon.

What is it with backmarkers who always take out front runners. It makes me angry :( Poor Ant, I was supporting him
