Sutil not heading to Ferrari

After Adrian Sutil's rather abrupt sacking from the Force India team he has been left to juggle up some options. Over the past week a number of rumours have arisen from the likes of a drive at Williams, to a testing role at one of the teams. One that caught my eye was a possible move to Ferrari as a test driver to take over the role of Felipe Massa for 2013, when the Brazilians contract runs out.

However this rumour was dismissed by Sutil's manager Manfred Zimmermann who admitted it would be a "dream" of Adrian's to drive for Ferrari but insisted that it is just a rumour and will not go anywhere.

He said there are still options "in F1" but they are slowly closing for the German. He lost his seat at Force India to ex-Williams pole sitter Nico Hulkenberg. So weighing up Sutil's options, what one is best for him?

Sutil's best bet is a testing role. That means he can stay in the F1 circle and a deal to let him run the occasional FP1 will let him show Force India and others what they are missing. It also helps build a strong relationship with a new team as in season testing is being brought back, he could come in handy for them.

Another possibility is to take a sabbatical year out of F1 and hope a 2013 drive comes around. However this could prove costly if the new drivers impress and Sutil could be easily forgotten. It could mean its even harder to come into F1.

If those options are not taken he could move Motor sport all together. A sport like IndyCar or sports car racing is a common transition for F1 drivers and could see him find more enjoyment and success in them.

However there are still the last few F1 seats for 2012 and i am sure he will be gunning for those. It also seems a slot at Caterham F1 could be up for grabs as Trulli's seat looks unstable.

What do you think Sutil should do? Comment below.

Not surprised about the Ferrari story, he spend too many seasons at Force India/Midland/Spyker without progressing to be in a serious team. I see him doing more Touring Cars/DTM/GT racing, there are too many good young guys out there.

The whole Sutil situation is a really interesting one. He's one of those many F1 drivers who does no wrong, yet finds himself without a decent seat in the sport, or no seat what-so-ever. It's harsh on him, but Formula One is extremely harsh; now more than ever!
He's got funding behind him though, aswell as experience, speed and consistency, so would be a sure-fire signing for any any of the minnows in the field.
