Martin Whitmarsh has insisted that Jenson Button will be staying with the British team for 2012, and for even longer.
He also revealed to BBC sport other interesting details on the story, so click 'Read More' to see..
Martin Whitmarsh has told BBC Sport that 31 year old Button will stay at Mclaren, and definitely for the foreseeable future as they are currently in talks of signing a long term contract.
Button had been rumoured to be of interest to Ferrari as he only signed a 2 year deal to race in 2010, with the option to extend it to 2012. This news interested Ferrari and rumours started spreading about a possible move, sparking many opinions on social networks.
However such stories have been put to rest after Whitmarsh said "I can guarantee you that he will be with us next year.We both want to work together for a long period of time. It's a non-issue."
However throughout the different rumours it has been obvious that the 2009 world champion will stay put with Mclaren, after some strong results this season, and probably some of the best resources in the business.
Button and the team are currently negotiating a long term partnership rather than a year long add on with Whitmarsh also adding in an interview with BBC radio 5 live that a "5 year deal" would be the "ideal world" for him and the team, who have strong confidence in Buttons abilities alongside fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton creating a thoroughbred British team.
He did however say that the talks will go on out of the public eye, and that there is no rush to put him on a small term contract.
With Mclaren's Lewis Hamilton alongside Button, Lewis has said he has to work hard at beating his team mate, but also said recently that despite the large points gap to Sebastian Vettel both Mclaren drivers are in contention with winning the 2011 drivers title no matter how much of an up hill struggle it could be, showing that both drivers are focused and determined whatever the situation.
Lewis Hamilton also told Jenson Button " i will not let you beat me" as competition rises over the points table. The Daily Telegraph however have already decided the best possible outcome for the British due would be a 2nd and 3rd in the championship, which they say is the only "realistic" outcome.
